Fear & Loss

Whatever you fear losing, let go of it.” – Yoda

Before Yoda, the ancient seers said it. It is mentioned in many sutras. When you let go, all you are letting go of is your fear of loss.

I know for most people, it is easier said than done. But having worked through my fears for years, in fact an entire lifetime, I realize all I have to do is allow fear to exist as is. All I need to do is step aside from the shadow of fear. My friend Thomas had this revelation, during Christmas on the Isla de Gomera, in Spain.

You may say, this is easy for you, not me. You may say this might be true for those who have studied and practiced it, not me. I say to this, it is easy for anyone who chooses to shed fear.

Whenever you feel fear of loss, take yourself to a place when you did not have what you do fear losing. See yourself in that moment in space when you did not have it. Hear what you hear and the feel everything that exists around you physically and emotionally. Own your thoughts from the time when you did not have what you fear losing now. How was it back then? Take a deep breath and know that you will be fine even after it is gone.

So, now that you know you were fine before you had it, know you that you will be fine even after you lose it. Once you own this feeling, ask yourself “where is the fear?” You will find it is hard to find.

When you disown your fear, you gift yourself with faith, with freedom.

Your handwriting and YOU.

The first question often posed is “what is handwriting analysis?” The other is “How does is work?” and finally “why is it needed?” Most other question are a subset of these questions.

Handwriting Analysis is a powerful way of getting a peak into the sub-conscious mind of the writer. Our handwriting is as unique as our finger print, hence detecting a forgery is possible for the handwriting analyst or graphologist. Handwriting analysis is a scientific process and study of the slant and the formation of each alphabet. The margins, spacing between each alphabets, words and sentences and the slope of each sentence helps the analyst learn of the writer’s moods, emotions, health, dispositions and even habits. This is done without reading the contents and hence is a non-judgemental approach to understanding another human.

Employers, prisons, recruiting agencies, health care providers and even correctional facilities hire handwriting analysts to get a peak at the sub-conscious programming (emotions and behaviors) of their clients and employees.

Your handwriting sample will reveal our current conditioning, attitudes, moods, dreams and wishes. Whenever our needs for the future are in conflict with our past memories and experience it is hard for us to achieve our goals. When we align our future with our present, achieving goals becomes easy and graceful. At times our critical mind will suppress our subconscious needs to protect us from hurt, so we can function consciously as civilized citizens conforming to the demands of the day to day existence.

A handwriting sample on a 8×10/A4 size paper of one paragraph ending with your signature and date can be analyzed by a handwriting analyst to effectively suggest/explain:

  • what is going on
  • give you the reasons
  • why you are getting the current results
  • why you feel the way you do
  • what is it you are truly seeking
  • and finally how to change your handwriting to get the results you seek

Of course a detailed analysis takes 2 hours to prepare. But a quick 15mins. Analysis helps understand why you are getting the results and not getting what you want.

So go ahead and send me a sample page of your handwriting and let us begin a fascinating journey of self-discovery leading to goal achievement.

Your sample must be on a blank piece of paper which is 8.5”x11” or A4 size. Remember to sign and date it. On the reverse side write your name, email address, phone number and the best time of the day to reach you.

On the paper write a paragraph on what you would like to do or have within the next 365 days. If you write big and want more than one sheet, please feel free to write on multiple number of sheets. But minimum requirement is one paragraph with around 15 lines. Being shy and of limited words in a handwriting analysis does not help. Also what you write cannot be copied from a book or notes from a lecture or meeting. They must be written on your own with minimal or zero distractions and in one shot. Once you feel complete with your writing, do not make any corrections to it. A handwriting analyst should have this sample writing of yours to conduct the analysis.

A hand writing analyst can recommend what is appropriate for the candidate. e.g someone who loves to hang around the coffee pot may make great at public relations and getting to know secrets and not the best in a research department. Also someone who is great in figures may not be the best at listening to complaints of other employees.

So through the analysis of a handwriting, the past can be understood and the future can be created by working in the present.

Habit control

Human beings are creatures of habit. Just like we can create a habit, we are also capable of getting out of a habit or replacing an old one with a new habit.

It actually takes 21 days to create a new habit and three days to break a habit. Now that is good news, isn’t it?

Last year my mother passed away. This year my family gathered to bring the year to a close. I realized that though everyone was expressing their loss in their own way, it seemed to me that most people had moved on. My brother-in-law mentioned that in six months everyone is literally done mourning a death. Though it shocked me, but as a behaviorist I realized it to be true. We hold on to what we want to hold on to. WE can replace any person easily, a feeling/emotion and a habit.

e.g. if you have been actively exercising and then you have a break in your routine and do not exercise for a day, it gets harder to return to it the second day and worse on the third day, right? After that it is like starting brand new, you have to force yourself to tie your shoe laces and step out of the house. It took you three days to break the habit of years of exercising. The same applies to meditating, yoga, diet, journaling, coffee, smoking, or even hanging out with your best friend.

You may ask why an iceberg? The tip of the iceberg is really not the tippy top. It is what we see above the water. That is the tip which is approximately 12% of the entire iceberg. What lies beneath the surface is the iceberg, the 88% of it. Our mind is just like that. 12% of our mind is the conscious mind, 88% of it is our sub-conscious.

Within our conscious mind we have our logic, reasoning, decision making, analytical abilities and our will power, which usually we do not seem to find when we need it the most. Our memories, opinions, likes, dislikes, our comfort zone is really in our sub-conscious mind. This is why when I ask you about your telephone number you can say it right away. But before this moment you weren’t thinking of your telephone number, were you?

This is because your memory of your telephone number is in your sub-conscious mind. As we go through this conversation your telephone number is now in your conscious mind. All our memories are stored and our habits are continuously reinforced in our sub-conscious mind.

Hynosis and meditation are both trance induced states through which we access our sub-conscious mind. True meditation is self-hypnosis, which comes with time and practice. Our sub-conscious  mind has all the answers we seek and the keys to our success. When accessed we can find answers within and also break free from habits that hold us back.

In hypnosis, you are the magician. A hypnotherapist is just someone who helps you help yourself. Getting rid of habits that keep you back takes 3 days, creating new habits take 21days, or 3 weeks.

When we ask…

we always get, for sure! We just must know what to ask for and how.

On thursday when I was leaving work I was told we would have a fine weather in Ventura. I was looking forward to that. But woke up to thundering rain on friday which lingered the whole day long.

Today I badly wanted to go visit the Jade Buddha and also go to the post office. I woke up this morning to a brightly clear sky, one after a rainy night. Amma called me up and came over. We went visited the Jade Buddha and had lunch as well.

I came home and went to the post office and came home. In five minutes of my being home, a clear sky turned gray and it has been raining since.

I never asked it to stop raining. All I asked for was to go to Jade Buddha exhibition and the post office. I did them both in dry weather.

The more specific we get in our asking the more easier it is to get what we want, the way we want it.

Jade Buddha & First Full Moon

Jade Buddha Inauguration Ceremony

Feb 17th 2011.

It was a full moon night. My Shifo (Buddhist Master) Rev. Thich Thong Hai and my dharma teacher Rev. T. Sutadhara together arranged a candle light chanting for world peace in front of the Jade Buddha which has been traveling the world for World Peace.

Our yoga teacher Sally McNally and her husband John Mcnally together organized a drumming circle for World Peace on this amazing evening. Those who love to drum, and love Buddha and are in act of pursuing, experiencing and creating peace joined and spend half an hour drumming for World peace.

A resident senior monk of the An Lac Mission, Thai Chuc Hein, joined us intermittently with chanting in Vietnamese. Most of us had not met each other or ever drummed together. But our mutual love of drumming, the Buddha and peace, took us into the heart of it all and allowed us to create sacred sounds and synchronized rhythms using our heart and our drums.

After our drumming, Master Hai talked to us and introduced monks from other places: the Los Angeles Buddhist Vihara, the Washington Buddhist Vihara, the San Francisco Buddhist Vihara and the Pine Mountains Monastery in Maricopa, California. We had chantings in Vietnamese, Pali (tha language of Shakya muni, the Buddha) and in English.

The dharma chakra was lit with candles and we had columns on both ends of the shrine lit with candles. On full moon night we meditated to the sacred chants. We ended it with offering our individual candles in the garden.Some chose the Bodhi tree, the some chose a statue of the Buddha, some chose the Kwan Yin, it did not matter. At the end, we had candles all over the garden and a moon casting its halo and covering more than 2/3rd of the sky.

These experiences and memories are once is a life. I shared this with my son Saagar, the monastics and the members of the Sangha.

Drumming at Jade Buddha

What is it that fulfills you?

Just today, my friend Bliss asked me, “So, what is it that fulfills you?” I begin my journey where the question left off. What honestly fulfills me is seeing a smile before I see the back of the person. I wish happiness for everyone I meet.
